The 1982 George Washington Commemorative half dollar was issued to mark the 250th anniversary of Washington's birth. The coin features a profile portrait of Washington on the obverse (based on the Houdon bust) and his Mount Vernon estate on the reverse. Designed by Elizabeth Jones, it was the first commemorative half dollar struck by the U.S. Mint since 1954.
