US Gold Dollars

Gold Dollars were minted from 1849 to 1889 in three distinct types. Type 1 (1849-1854) featured Liberty Head on tiny 13mm planchets. Type 2 (1854-1856) showed a larger Indian Princess head. Type 3 (1856-1889) refined the Indian Princess design. These coins were created in response to the California Gold Rush and contained approximately 1.5 grams of gold. Their small size made them impractical for commerce but highly collectible today, especially in higher grades.
